The nigerian retail markets are not very good. We hope to improve this situation gradually by supplying reasonably priced products to attract stores and restaurants. To make it happen we are launching a development program:

"MEDICS" is for active medical centers there. While having "seats" at the Council of the region (being mayor of any city there grants you some seats too), you can peek into the info about the enterprises in the cities. That way you can know how many are there, and how many of them are in vacations or even empty.
 
All the info about the population and unable to work data is at the Game world > World Map > AnyCountry > AnyRegion page.
 
The market development and volume for medical centers can be checked at Game world > Reports > Marketing > Services sector. Then choose a target city and the medical center icon to check the info.
 
The rest is just collecting it into a single TXT file using the Courier font to keep it well aligned in the forum. To you

Mike alone has managed to reduce the deficit for the region a 20% without stepping in, so this proves that our wicked plan might work after all. .

Update :
 
day 1: region loss 5B, my retail 0.2B
day 2: region loss 4B, my retail 1.2B
day 3: region loss 4.34B, my retail 0.9B, paid 166 725.17 profits tax in the region
day 4: region loss 4.37B, my retail 1.9B, paid 339 413 540.51 profits tax in the region
 
Abuja has an extremely high municipal tax: 125% as compared to the usual 100%.  It reduces the city daily loss by about 2 Million. What are the drawbacks of such increased tax? In rl it would have an adverse effect on spending.

I would think that it does the same in-game, less cash in pocket, less cash spent in stores. The problem is that the municipal taxes can't be lowered unless the city has positive balance. So, sadly, I guess Morty scewed it a bit back there. To you The high wages might compensate it up to certain point, but it would require setting some "dummy" stores in snob are to inflate the budget and be able to lower them again. Unreal, but the only way.

Your retail effort is incredible, Mike. I bet you could fix the country alone if you put your mind to it. To you
 
It was definately a mistake to increase the municipal tax. I did it solely to help balance the budget, but the extra tax revenue is minimal and the adverse effect on retail/services is truly unwanted.
 
In the future, I will not increase any municipal tax in Nigeria and I will reduce it again in Abuja if it ever becomes possible. Boosting the retail to make it possible would require a lot of retail (5xMike?), as Abuja only receives a small percentage of it.

Obviously we need a governor to balance the region budget, but the $5B deficit isn't making it very attractive. In that sense, any improvement to the profit tax revenue is positive. If your retail effort alone can remove 20% of the deficit over night, I would say it does have some effect. Maybe not enough to fix the region budget by retail only, but as part of the solution. Retail is also important for rent to the cities.
 
Someone suggested that restaurant prices is somehow connected to the retail of foodstuff/groceries. Is this true?

True. But we do not know exactly how much those prices are influenced by retail. IMO, more important is the wealth level, size of the city, and the district competition.

I seem to remember that Jane once wrote that municipal tax levels had no impact on anything other than the budget...
 
Don't take this as a given though until Jane actually confirms that or anybody can find her post...
