Greece, the real life new Nigeria? I don't nose into this stuff too much, but they have what they voted for. You can't get money where there is not, (unless you happen to be a corrupted politician or banker To you), and you can't pay expenses without it. This guy has been merrily spending in order to keep his "popularity" as a blah-blah-blah good-doer, refuses to pay debts and seems to be proud of it, and now he is reaping the fruits of his labor. Nothing new, but it has made the problem even worse for Greece.

Greece is in trouble no matter how they vote.
 
In my opinion, the Greeks should default on the debt and put the banker losses where they belong: on the bankers. However, one can't default on Sunday and ask for another loan to pay State pensions on Monday. If the Greeks default, they get the interest payments off their backs, but they will have to live within their means. Living within their means will mean painful losses for Greeks who were promised unrealistic pensions by Greek politicians.
 
Or the Greeks can kick the can down the road and face a bigger dislocation in the future. Eventually, income will have to balance outgo. The bankers want the Greeks to pay their loans in full and force all of the "austerity" on the Greek depositors.
 
Most likely, the politicians will continue to make unrealistic promises and blame somebody else when it becomes apparent to everyone that the Emperor has no clothes.

Hello
I am confused about what to vote for.
Trying to predict what will mean the ΝΑΙ (yes)  and OXI (no) to the referendum the next day. The question in this is not clear
The leftist government says that in both cases that it will negotiate.
The result in referendum i think will be 48-52% between the YES and NO
 
There's a GREEK documentaries of 2012 on the crisis.

NAI = EU gives money again, only asks for measures to get to a healthy budget; no collateral.
OXI = someone else gives money (IF you can believe Varoufakis): eg China. Will they do this without collateral??
 
NAI = EU forces the government to get healthy financially
OXI = government will continue to say that digging is the way to get out of the hole (which obviously isn't the case as it only deepens the hole)
 
As always with these sort of things though: the outcome is usually very unexpected and something entirely different :-)

Predictions for Greece:
This is a game changer. I predict that Greece leaves the Euro and looses funding (I don't see other countries lending money to Greece). Greece will need to devalue it's currency by a lot to keep the economy going. This will create an enormous inflation on imported goods and cheap vacations for the tourists going to Greece (I don't know what else they export).
 
The above, with a extremely leftist government, will lead to communism, I think, much like in South America. The salaries in Greece are very high compared with what it's economy can support.
 
I think hard times are coming to Greece. A very deep depression. I sure hope I'm wrong but good luck to the people of Greece!
 

PS - I think the referendum question wasn't understandable. Mitsofos confirmed that and I have a friend which is an Senior Manager in a Big4 accounting firm that read the "question" and said he couldn't understand it. I feel the people of Greece had no idea what they were voting.

The people votes against old politicians that support NAI. Αll politicians (former prime minister last 15 years) who are responsible for the situation in the country, came out and made statements in favor of yes. This made many people be outraged, this was a bad policy from supporters for yes.

Given that the greeks came to this afternoon's meeting without any proposal, it's becoming more apparent imo that the greek government does not want to reach a deal with its creditors. Not even a rescue without any strings attached. I think the communist government want the people to suffer for as long as they can stick the blame on Germany.
 
Then at some point, the communist system can be deployed without much resistance. Everybody receives a base income in the new currency. Everybody is forced to accept this currency. Prices will be fixed by the government. Who knows how far they could take it? Maybe every business is nationalised and people that are now shop owners become civil servants...
 
It's sad for the people of Greece, but you cannot help who does not want to be helped...
 
Then again, maybe my doomsday thinking might be totally wrong and a deal is struck tonight... Let's hope so :-D
