Wonson When you say "it's a hoax" or "it's ridiculous", we outsiders cannot understand what you mean. You can help us understand better if you clarify how these dialects developed and which one is the original language of the locals? Walon? French? or maybe both?
I mean did they all speak Walon in the past, but urban people adopted a French accentuation in recent years?
Or did they all speak French in the past, but new dialects like Walon developed in limited areas? (i.e because of vicinity with other lingual groups)
Or maybe both dialects are equally genuine?
You really want us to explain? You really want to open the pandoras box in another pandoras box while being in an inception within an inception???
Let me try though
Belgium consists out of 3 regions, either called Gewest or Gemeenschap, depending about which topic you talk. 99% of next statement is correct: these 3 regions are Vlaams, Waals or Brussels (pre- and suffix will differ wether it is Gewest or Gemeenshap), why is it 99% correct because for the Gemeenschap Brussel doesn't count and Oostkantons is added (German speaking part).
Language: Vlaanderen is Dutch, Wallonie is French, Brussel is both but mainly French and Oostkantons is Germen
Now next level: there are 10 provinces(clockwise, starting from the Noordzee), West-Vlaanderen, Oost-Vlaanderen, Antwerpen, Vlaams Brabant (in which Brussels is located), Limburg, Luik, Luxemburg, Namen, Waals-Brabant and Henegouwen.
Next level= arrondissementen, then province districts, kantons, gemeentes and then you are at city level.
If this is not clear, buy yourself the 24 pieces enceclopedia about Belgium ;) after reading that you will be amazed we get this country working, well sort of
Still proud to be a Belgian though |
