Three years with Virtonomics
 

On Tuesday, November 26, 2013, in Virtonomics, there will be introduced one more, to be exact even two spheres of activity which were presented only indirectly before - energetics and ecology.
 
1. Coal power plants
 
New unit type will be introduced: power plants with coal specialization only for now.
 
Equipment: coal power unit consisting of steam turbine, boiler, heatexchange equipment and coal mill (5 new products total at 4 new plants).
 
Coal power plants accept Coal of quality not lower than 1.25.
 
For control over mentioned units, new qualification type is introduced - Power industry.
 
By the principle of work, the power plant will be similar to usual plant, but with several fundamental differences the most important from which — the fact, that the produced electric power (measured in MWh) isn't usual stored product. The policy of sale of the electric power is defined by the energy grid, in which a power plant is included by its owner. In the first release five sales-policies are provided:
 
1 . World power grid: the produced energy is purchased by the independent dealer at the price equal to 25% from "world" price of electricity (now it is equal $100 / MWh). Thus, the first power plants will have the guaranteed unlimited sales at the price of $25 for MWh.
 
2 . Regional power grid: the produced energy is purchased by the region at the price not above the current "world" price, the regional auction of energy suppliers takes place each update, the energy not sold in update is purchased by the independent dealer at the price of 15% from "world".
 
3 . City power grid: the produced energy is purchased by the city at the price not above the regional price, the city auction of energy suppliers takes place each update, the energy not sold in update is purchased by the independent dealer at the price of 15% from "world".
 
4 . Corporate power grid: the produced energy is purchased by the enterprises, which are in this region and belonging to corporation, which the owner of power plant is a member of. Deliveries of energy take place only if selling price doesn't exceed regional tariffs. The not-sold energy irrevocably disappears in update.
 
5 . Private power network: the produced energy is purchased by the enterprises, which are located in this city and belonging to the owner of power plant. Deliveries of energy take place only if selling price doesn't exceed regional tariffs. The not-sold energy irrevocably disappears in update.
 
Besides, the mechanism of technological levels will work differently for power plants. Growth of technologies won't increase power unit capacity, but will save fuel (coal) — 5% of economy for each new level by an accruing result (0.95 in degree). And low-quality fuel will reduce the production capacity of power plant.
 
Multiplication of technological level by efficiency will characterize degree of ecological safety of station (some analog of products quality). The higher this indicator is, the more safe the station is concerning harmful atmospheric emissions.
 
2. Auction of energy
 
Nothing difficult. At first the private and corporate power networks delivering energy directly to the enterprises are processed. Then the cities are calculated. If there are the power plants offering energy to the city at the price below, than the region, the city buys energy from them, preferring cheaper offers, and in case of equality of the price — to larger power plants. Then by the same principle regions are processed. The world market is not to be calculated — it is always ready to purchase the remaining energy: at power plants of a world power grid at the price of 25% from the base price, at power plants of regional and city power grids — at the price of 15% from basic.
 
Once in virto-year, together with all other changes of salaries, taxes, etc., the world price for the electric power will change also. Principle is simple: few players go in for energy production — the price grows. It is a lot of players — the price aspires to trends set by players.
 
Besides, once in virto-year ecologists re-estimate the recommendations and requirements for levels of ecological safety of power plants of realm.
 
3. Ecology and new mayor/governor's projects
 
Environmental problems will be presented by four most painful for modern mankind problems: garbage, pollution from motor transport, industrial drains and emissions in the atmosphere from power plants. Each update in each city and in each region, there will be estimated degree of environmental problems on these four categories. Influence of adverse ecology will be expressed in rise in price of municipal and regional special projects, and also in negative dynamics by number of inhabitants in the cities. And, on the contrary, in completely safe on ecology regions birth rate and a standard of living will increase.
 
Ecology won't affect the current expenditure of mayors and governors, the cost of projects only.
 
For control over an ecological situation, mayors will have four new projects.
 
City program of garbage utilization will allow to lower significantly the level of the environmental problems connected with garbage.
Traffic intersection will allow to cut down for 50% transportation expenses of the enterprises in the city (products delivery within this city) and will lower level of the environmental problems connected with motor transport.
Treatment facilities will allow to lower significantly the level of environmental problems connected with industrial drains.
Environmental monitoring of power plants will allow to lower significantly the level of environmental problems connected with atmospheric emissions from power plants of the city. Thus, the city will refuse to buy the electric power from those power plants of a city power grid, which level of ecological safety is less than value recommended by ecologists.
 
For control over an ecological situation governors will have two new projects.
 
Ecological police will allow to lower level of the environmental problems connected with garbage, motor transport and industrial drains, in all cities of the region. However, expenses of the region on ecology will increase for 15%. Besides, all additional subsidies will be directed for ecological needs to municipal budgets of the problematic cities, if those are provided by the regional budget.
Environmental monitoring of power plants will allow to lower significantly the level of environmental problems connected with atmospheric emissions from power plants of the region. However, the region will refuse to buy the electric power from those power plants of a regional power grid, which level of ecological safety is less than value recommended by ecologists.
 
Besides, Governor's Councils of all regions will be added with 50 the voices reserved for owners of power plants of the region. Votes will be distributed in proportion to quantity of the electric power sold in update and adjusted for a share of players in energy distribution (for example, if players produce only 10% of energy consumed by production of the region, then for power engineers 5 voices in Council are allocated only).

In addition, daily within the current week (on November 26-29) Coal mines with discounts will be exposed on the market of the state enterprises!

Haw haw, good move. Not removing the independent supplier, but forcing to have your own mine in order to have it working.

I would like to see changes in voting system. Don't get it why there must be 50% + of voters to have succesfull voting.

Damnit. I hope those new mines on the state enterprises last atleast 2 weeks -.-

Nah, i'll wait a week, win a couple of tenders, maybe initially sink in 5 points.
 
After some thinking, I actually think i'll wait longer than 1 week and see how this plays out. Wouldn't be really thrilled if I bought some mines and power plants and this project turns out to be like the Avionics industry which is truly in a state of mess. I think i'll do the research first!

Can we have a spoiler about the max number of workers at qualification level 1, please? Very we!
 
One equipment unit for running the plant seems too good. Will it get partially broken or fully broken at a moderated percentage?
 
Also, quality 10.00 steel? The highest one in Mary realm right now is 9.92. So, your own coal and iron mines or else, what tech level for that output with q1.00 materials?
 
Manganese and titanium mine owners, be happy, now you have use for your stock.

I think it's good the devs have used titanium as a raw material in the production of equipment for power plants. Titanium was to be used in the aviation industry which is completely dead and the titanium mine owners would be crying (atleast i would be). Now they have some use for it.
 
That being said, I think the devs SHOULD have first fixed the aviation market and then moved on to introducing new products/sectors. Don't get me wrong, i think introducing new stuff every 6/8 months is the thing that keeps the players going, but why not fix smt first that's broken before buying smt new?
 
When we produce electricity, can it be used to supply our own usage?

I agree that it was a good idea to use titanium for this, but you're wrong about the aircraft market. It works great with the new virt lottery.
 
You can use the electricity you produce by setting sales to "private power network", but you need to have the power plant in the same city as the subdivisions you want to supply.

If i were given a choice to win virts in tenders or by producing aircrafts, I would straight away run to the tender option. Not because I can not produce an aircraft (I think i have enough resources to build atleast 80% of the parts, and with time, the whole of it) but because i think too many resources are spent in that industry to gain 1 virt. Doesn't really justify it to me.
 
On the other hand, people who dislike micro-management will dislike tenders as well. I have spare time hence i choose the tender option. As far as the aviation industry goes, i think until the governmental purchase pricing system doesn't get fixed, the aviation virt lottery does little to attract people. The aircraft producers already in the picture are going to stay, ofcourse, but does that attract new producers? Not in my opinion/

Yeah, tenders offer virts for less effort, but there's also more competition. Aircraft are for big companies that want to get virts for their resources and cash, without having to compete too much.
 
The energy sector also looks like something for big companies. It will probably take a lot of Q1.25 coal to develop the new top manager qualification. Will there be new tender types for the power plant qualification?

Nosing into the aircraft thing. If you have to replenish your titanium, copper, etc. mine from time to time before running out of ammo, does it really compensate? Not the same, because the prize is in points, but Broker-yard gives a chance for "just" $10 VirtoMillion. I'm new with mines, so don't take my question rethorically, I'm asking.

It depends on the size of your mines. Replenishing the mine with 1 virt doesn't provide very much ore per virt. It's best to spend at least 10 virts on each mine, I think.
 
So does the lottery compensate? It depends how many aircraft you have to sell to get the virt and how many virts you use when you create mines. Also, it's possible to buy fairly priced aircraft materials/parts from time-to-time. That is often good business, but it makes the calculation even more complex.
