I'm not too much into this news, but I doubt they might have any considerable negative effect.
They are likely to have enough wealth to cover all the fines. The ones collecting the cash get happy, Volkswagen keeps existing, and everyone's happy.
About the emissions, sadly we live in a world where most of people doesn't give a crap about pollution. If they are unable to deposit trash in the right place, don't expect them to be worried about the car pollution.
About the brand itself, only ecologists might boicott it. Others will just keep watching their wallets, that that happened to be the origin of Volkswagen itself too, and will keep buying them if there is no better alternative for them.
And the evil clutches of powerful corporations, greedy fine collectors and careless people continues, while nature keeps being the victim once again (because this is not new, pollution keeps happening regardless of if there is a "legal" limitation or not). If they were really worried about emissions, they would swap to bicycles or natural gas. Well, not THOSE emissions and not THAT gas, the other kind of gas. You know, natural gas. |
