In most regions, the electricity cost is highly subsidized. Everyone like cheap energy, but the regions have to charge profit tax to finance it.
 
With the subsidies I also think a lot of energy is wasted, as players lose the incentive to install solar panels. And in some cases (i.e. low tech production) the energy cost to the region can be larger than the benefit to the economy (profit to company + taxes).
 
On the other hand, power subsidies may be necessary for small companies to produce profitably. Even if they don't contribute positively to the economy yet, cheap energy can help them build valuable companies for the future.
 
This is a rather complex matter, so feel free to elaborate your view below. Eventually, the Governors have to choose between low profit tax and low energy tariffs.

Subsiding energy is subsiding local producers, and it is best proven method to destroy global market prices. In long run it will not help turning Nigeria to a new Germany by much, but Germany will be turned to a new Nigeria for sure.
 
The poll result is already 9-3 in favour of decreasing energy subsidization, and I believe the majority is on the right track.

On Mary, I hope we will manage to get the global price under control. Then we can reduce the subsidies without changing the power tariffs in the regions.
