So, you see, I've been wondering a bit about canned cat food lately, boi...
 
So, at its lowest level, a factory with 200 workers and machines produces around 3000 canned meat units...
 
That is, 15 canned meat units per worker per week...
 
PER WEEK?! Are you saying that I'm paying their wages for stuffing 2 cans with meat per day?! Man, I should assassinate the labor union representative! I mean, one can per 4 hours of work?! What the hell are they doing during their working time?!
 
Anyone else has had a similar thinking attack with another of your favorite products? Or with some other product that might require some additional balancing?

In the UK there are 10 million cats, but there are only 6 million cat food cans sold in the UK last week.
That means, only 0.85 million cats can eat a daily meal, the others eat, uhhhh, mice I think. Really?

Well, the canned meat is more of a luxury food for them (even when it's made mainly with meat leftovers), the dry food (cereal) which has all added proteins (34% is the best one in market) and stuff, is the long term food. But their natural diet should always include some source of meat too (birds are a natural source too, but hard to catch them, and some sanitary risks depending on the bird itself), so the canned meat is the best available choice. That, or cooking some chicken dish.
 
Talking about that, we need dry food in Virtonomics too. And possibly vet clinics too, even though they are more merchants than medics sometimes... =^¬_¬^=
 
So, more thoughts?

Due to the large market volumes, pet food is a very interesting product and requires large amounts of factory workers and meat farms. But the tiny warehouse volumes and the rather high cost per unit as well as the 40 bucks of transportation make it a logistic challenge to establish this industry profitably. It almost seems intentionally designed like that.

Sorry Mike, this thread was created long before the REAL canned cat food item was introduced into the game. The "canned" food I talked about in this one was that one made at sausage factories, you know, with just steel and meat.
