what if every month a player was named "Player of the month" and got a nice prize for it (eg 10 VIRT)?
 
You might consider creating different categories (eg based on experience, asset value, qualifications, ...). I wouldn't bother with small time companies though. Starters have their various contests. This would be for anybody beyond the contest for presidents.
 
In any event, we would need objective criteria to decide who is the player of the month. Use of clones should in no event help you become the player of the month. Preferably players that don't spend points should also stand a decent chance to win. The broader the involvement, the more worth the title has to the winner!
 
Maybe there should also be a limit: you can only be player of the month 3 times per year.
 
If criteria are found, the concept could be elaborated:
 
Player of the week (badge for a week + 1 virt + miscellaneous bonus like marketing service or HR or something like that, something different every week)
 
Player of the year (badge forever + some special asset + +1 on your 3 highest qualifications)

JustNash justly points out a need for a regular reward system after the contest for presidents, although there are tenders currently, I believe that earning 1 VIRT occasionally for a +£100 billion company is not worth the effort for many of the players running 'empires' on their respective servers. However, with multiple sources of virts will boost interest in running a more dynamic company.

the test criteria should include:
 
Participation in Events
Community Participation
Knowledge sharing (writing guides etc.)
 
It should inherently be made independent of "size" of the player. A player with 1b in assets should be able to compete with a player with 10b assets for example.
