Is it me or is it next to impossible when you need grain higher than qual 1? Grain is like 700+ for like qual 6 or up, Am I doing the math wrong or is impossible to make a profit say on a chicken farm?

You know for beginner there isn't any need for grain higher than independent supplier quality

So what you have to think about is Where do i find q1 grain and max quality 2 animals for my animal farm to operate.

When your new, you start small and expand with level up. You dont need higher than grain q1 and q2 animals at all. as your technology level improves the higher quality products you can make from q1 grain and q2 animal. Just remember to change technology for ex your poultry farm from lv 5 to 6 as your livestock level goes up after a while.

conclusion: Stick to grain quality 1 food, and get some animals q2 or under.

For example how do livestock farms that need more than level 1 grain be profitable when the grain costs are like 700x more.

You never need animals of a certain quality. I have tech 17 farms using quality 2 animals. Others around here will have higher tech with quality 2 animals. As the tech increases output quality gets higher even with quality 1 grain and 2 animals.
