Dear all,
 
Newbie here Well I own a store in Umea which has 3 departments -- Clothes and Shoes, Foodstuff and Jewelry. The home page of the store has the following alert:
"Trade section Foodstuff has very weak sales position. Perhaps, you should better close this department, since stores with small number of trading departments have better results."
 
What exactly does it mean by weak sales position? What determines whether a section has a weak or strong sales position?
 
How will a weak sales position affect the general revenue in my stores? Will it adversely affect my umber of visitors and popularity? Will the weak sales position of one department affect sales in another department?

Good to see you've found your way to the forum to ask the questions that you are confronted with. Definitely no need to apologise for that.
 
As for my answer: stores in Sweden are too small to cope with multiple departments. I'd recommend you close down 2 of your 3 departments... Then if you can hire enough quality staff (given the limits to your commercial qualification as a newbie), your service level should go up, which in turn will result in a stronger sales position offering you better margins.
