Can someone please explain how exactly the solar power plant units work. The info is a little messed up on that particular unit so any extra info will help. I already understand that it doesn't work like the other power plants but for example if you aren't at any corporation what's your options?

you can only sell the produced energy to your own subdivisions (or those within your corp) in the same city. Equipment is rather costly, to avoid efficiency below 100% / replace partially weared out equipment / its best to have a rather large energy consumption in that city e.g. large solar power plants and/or high regional electricity cost  to make it worthwhile.
 
Growing qualification in the energy sector is generally a loss of money; advantages lay mainly in gaining political voices and occasional tenders.

Thank you for your reply. Do you mean my energy subdivisions or factories etc?
I know that energy sector is generally waste of money,but as you say the other advantages are interesting! Well
