That's the problem.
A recent experience of mine: I was selling canned olives a bit better than Local Suppliers' quality in Sri Lanka. Market changed and LS upgraded their quality and my product was a bit worse than LS after the changes. My sales volume dropped by a lot. Tried to compensate with brand. Advertised my goods and created the best brand in city. But that didn't help at all. Low Quality is Low Quality and customers will reject it. I have to add my store was in good conditions, over 300,000 visitors in City Centre and Very High service level, a lot more visitors than most competitors.
So I limited supply of Canned Olives to that city and increased sales somewhere else. I should have really stopped supply but price was very high in that city and my limited sales was still a good business.
That's how this game works. If you are not the player with top-notch quality be prepared to relocate fast.
To me, Low Cost Strategy means just a bit better than Local Suppliers' quality. Of course every player should experience and form their own opinions. This is just how I realised it. |
