City market average is an indicator of how well your items will sell in the store.
If the quality of goods that your are selling is lower than the city average, and you attempt to set the sale price higher than that, it will not make for a very profitable store.
However, if the expensive goods from your suppliers have superior quality to the city average, then you can sell it at a higher than city average price and still be quite profitable.
As suggested by light, you can look through the game world->reports->city retail for your city and sale item of interest before opening a store in the particular city.
Some goods will almost always be unprofitable in some cities, eg brillants and motor car goods in Mali.
As Fractal said, 100m and 500m stores will not sell enough volume to influence the city average. You need to heed the city average or risk being unprofitable.
Players with huge stores and large market shares can influence the city average, but I would guess most of those players would have their own supply chain to back up their supplies. |
