*the expansion of sawmills has had a great influence on the market

Starting from July 21, 2010 it is possible to expand sawmills in Virtonomics.
 
On calculating the cost of expansion the cost of the current area with the coefficient of 0.75 is taken into account (75% of the cost of the current sawmill is subtracted from the cost of a new sawmill).
 
On Anna the expansion is only available for the sawmills with the wood quality 1, 2, and 3.

And it costs game points. So you will pay the price of the expanded sawmill, minus 75% of the point cost of your current sawmill

Mary has no independant supplier for timber.
If you want timber you will need to enter into a supply agreement with a producer, get your own sawmill or play on Lien realm which does have an independant timber supplier.

Does that mean that buying a small sawmill and then expanding it gets you more for your game points?

No, it actually costs you more. What it means is that however much you paid for your current sawmill, 75% of that cost will be removed from upgrading. Example.
 
500ha costs 200 points. 250ha costs 100 points.
 
Say you have a 250ha sawmill and want to upgrade to 500ha. The cost of the upgrade is 200 - (100 X 75%) = 125. So you pay 125 points to upgrade.
 
Of course, they don't cost that much, but for simplicity, it's easier to calculate.
