Just trying to sort it out.

So each company has a tech level.  When you build a company you can choose the tech level.

To advance a tech level you either purchase or research it.

Am I correct so far?

So if I have company with tech level 4, I have to buy or research 5?  Can I shoot past 5 to say 9?

If I resarch something I don't build or own is it then a product I sell? I can only use it once?

When you do the research yourself, it's one level after another, you cannnot jump from level 5 to 9. But once you have reached a level, you can introduce that technology to all your factories of that kind, almost for free. And you can also sell that technology on the technology market.

On the other hand, if you choose to buy a technology of a certain level instead of researching, you pay more for it on the technology market, and you can only use it in the factory where you bought it. The same goes if you buy directly that level of technology, without trying to buy it on the technology market, except that you pay a lot more than on the market.

Hi. I've read some of your posts, and find them helpful.  Thanks.

If I understand your answer to phildo correctly, all things being equal, it's cheaper to spend the money to open a research lab and staff it and wait for 3 - 8 weeks or whatever it takes, to get a tech level  boost, than it is to buy in on the open market?  Am I restating what you wrote correctly?

Thannks again.

Low level technologies are cheap to buy and introduce. Plus, you might find factories of your interest on the entreprise market, with technologies already introduced there (level 5 for example, or whatever you can find in your sector).

It's if you want to speacialize in one or several kinds of products that doing your own research is useful, because you can introduce the technology almost for free in those factories, and the more factories, the bigger the economy of not purchasing a technology license for each of them.

Also, if you want to get to high levels of technology (above level 8 or 9), you'll probably need to do research yourself, level by level. Again, you might find the right factories on the entreprise market, but it's not guaranteed, and maybe they're overpriced.
